What is Electric Heating?

Due to their eco-friendliness, ease of use, safety, and affordability, electric heating systems are one of the most popular options for homes and businesses. There are many types of electric heating systems and, although each type is different in operation, most electric heaters require very little maintenance.

Any installation of a new heating system should always be done by a licensed electrician. Many electric heating systems require specialized breakers and circuitry, and an electrician cannot only ensure that your home is safe but also that you are getting the most out of what you are paying for by optimizing the efficiency of your electric heater.

Types of Electric Heaters

Each type of electric heater has its own benefits and difficulties. Certain types of spaces are better suited to specific heating options, so always consult a licensed electrician when deciding on which electric heating system to install.

Baseboard Heating

Electric baseboard heaters are inexpensive, versatile, and use space efficiently. This is one of the most common heating systems in apartments, as they can heat each room individually and only require a power source, which can come from either a wall outlet or hard wiring, depending on the heater.

Convection Heating

Electric convection heaters use wire elements that heat the air and they have a high degree of control. These heaters are also commonly found in apartments, as well as houses, and they often have built in fans for a forced-air option.

Furnaces

An electric furnace uses a series of ducts and vents to supply warm air throughout a home. This type of electric heating option can be used in tandem with an air conditioner. An electric furnace is ideal for any type of bigger building like a house or business and they require very little maintenance.

Boilers

Boilers are another type of heating system that is ideal for bigger buildings. Electric boilers heat water, which is then pumped through pipes that radiate heat into each room. The hot water can be adjusted by zone, which means that the temperature of the building can be regulated from room to room.

To reduce the risk of creating a fire hazard and to ensure that you get the right electric heating solution for your space, consult a licensed electrician when deciding on heating options.
